In 2004 we launched a weekly friendship and luncheon club for older people called Prime Time. It was so successful that a second day was started in January 2005. Prime Time now operates on Wednesday and Thursday.

The group which has about 100 members ranging in age from late 60s to mid 90s, meets each week in the Day Centre adjoining the church at the rear of the Manna House, starting around 11.30am for coffee and a good chat. Free transport is provided to and from the meeting each week and the meetings end around 2.45pm.

An excellent cooked two course lunch is provided for just £6 and there is a full and varied programme of after lunch guest speakers or social activities. Regular handicraft sessions have been held including making Christmas displays, and planting up spring bulbs. A Thornton’s Chocolate party went down well, as did a special Christmas visit from the nearby Woodlands Primary School.

There have also been talks on safety and security from fire officers and the police as well as information on keeping warm in winter and ensuring that each person knows about the welfare benefits open to them.

Coach trips are a regular feature of Prime Time, with outings to the theatre, garden centres and the like. In recent years, Prime Time has organised holidays which have been hugely successful events with over fifty of our members coming along to Hayling Island in Portsmouth this year.
